Nevermore
2020
oil on slate
4 x 6 feet

Nevermore contemplates the fractured symbol of the American Dream and the meaning of works engraved at the feet of Lady Liberty.  Instead of the Emma Lazarus poem, with its idealized image of America’s open arms, it lists the names of those who have perished trying to reach asylum here in the US.

The list of names, compiled from multiple sources, is not a comprehensive list, but a symbol of the thousands who have died seeking freedom.

Nevermore, is painted on slate roof tiles from the Kings Park Psychiatric Hospital a condemned American institution of the past, that is a symbol of our current atrocity against humanity today.
